WHA provides support to a Universities Focus Group. The key role of the group is to act as a link and catalyst to improve communication and coordination regarding issues relating to wildlife health for Australian Universities.
A workshop was held that identified what Australian Universities could offer to wildlife disease management in Australia, key priorities, enabling strategies and critical infrastructure (report below).

In 2019, members of this group were involved in initiating a proposal to develop an Australian Wildlife Health Institute. A priority for the group will be to better understand how the national system can support this work as well as contrinuing to examine how information on wildlife health generated through Australia's universities can be better captured and utilised to support wildlife health management nation-wide.
