Epi in the Valley - Diagnostic Tests from Zero to Hero

18-22 March 2019, Yarra Valley, Victoria

This event is supported by the OIE Collaborating Centre for Diagnostic Test Validation Science in the Asia-Pacific Region.

The focus of this workshop will be on the interpretation and validation of diagnostic tests in veterinary science. We will provide detailed coverage of validation alternatives in the absence of a perfect reference (gold) standard, moving from basic principles of test validation and interpretation to latent class analysis, including application to prevalence estimation.

The course will cater for all levels of epidemiological background. Those less familiar with the content area will be gently introduced and show a suite of online tools to make their life easier. More advanced participants can expect to leave the course with a toolbox of code in OpenBUGs and for those familiar with R (not essential) code will be provided to implement reproducible analyses using R2OpenBUGS and similar.

2019 Turtle Health and Rehabilitation Symposium

17-18th September 2019; Gold Coast, Qld

In September, it will be time once again for the biennial Turtle Health and Rehabilitation Symposium. This year the event is moving away from North Queensland to the Gold Coast.
The symposium will  focus on veterinarian science, research and rehabilitation practices for sea turtles. For all of those that attended the 'Building Bridges" workshop in Ballina last year, this Symposium will provide an opportunity to go further into the discussions and information shared in October and cover some of the topics that were requested in the follow-up. For everyone else, this will be a great chance to learn about the veterinarian techniques specific to  treating sea turtles and responsibilities and best practice in the rescue and rehabilitation of turtles.
The Symposium will be ideal for anyone already working or volunteering in turtle rescue, rehabilitation, treatment and health research, as well as those hoping to gain some expertise in these areas.

Nipah Virus International Conference

9-10th December; Singapore

Since first being identified in Malaysia and Singapore in 1999, the Nipah virus has gone on to cause a number of deadly outbreaks across South and Southeast Asia. In light of its epidemic potential and with no vaccines or treatments currently available, the zoonotic disease is listed on the WHO’s R+D Blueprint as a priority pathogen in need of urgent action.
To mark the 20th anniversary since the discovery of Nipah, an international scientific congress will be held to bring researchers and practitioners together to review the historic outbreaks, discuss the latest developments in diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics, and foster greater international collaboration.
