Wildlife Health Australia (WHA) has today launched its Strategic Framework 2025–2050, setting a bold agenda to advance wildlife health for a healthier future for all.
The new Strategic Framework 2025-2050 reflects the organisation’s new vision for healthy wildlife, healthy planet. It outlines a clear roadmap built on four interconnected pillars: to embed One Health, amplify the needs of wildlife, bolster resilience, and create and share knowledge.
Chair of the WHA Board, Dr Richard Russell, said the Board’s Strategic Framework for the organisation provides a future-focused, practical foundation to lead change for the immediate and long-term benefit of the nation – and our planet.
“This Framework sets a clear direction for how we must approach wildlife health as a critical component of broader health, animal and environmental systems. It strengthens WHA’s position as a strategic leader and trusted partner—enabling evidence-based decision-making with a One Health approach through collaboration, strategic intelligence and the integration of diverse expertise,” Dr Russell said.
The Strategic Framework also prioritises community engagement and advocacy to broadly and meaningfully engage with the community to deliver better wildlife health outcomes, and elevate wildlife health in national and global decision making. It paves the way for harnessing emerging technologies and sustainable funding streams, and to continue listening and begin elevating Indigenous voices in wildlife health.
The Framework was shaped through consultation with feedback from staff as well as Australian and international stakeholders, helping to refine and strengthen the direction. It will be implemented through a series of time-bound plans.
With this long-term vision, WHA will continue to grow and lead as a trusted voice for wildlife health — and as a driving force for a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
