Infectious diseases can lead to emergencies that threaten wild animal health, welfare and biodiversity, and may also impact the health of humans and other animals.
WHA works with a large network of government and non-government stakeholders to lead, coordinate, inform and support activities that mitigate the impacts of infectious disease emergencies on wildlife and ecosystems. We apply a One Health approach that incorporates wildlife perspectives into decision-making and promotes holistic solutions that consider the health of wildlife, people, livestock and the planet.
If you suspect an emergency animal disease, notifiable disease or exotic pest, you should immediately report it by calling the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline (1800 675 888).
Information, links and resources on high pathogenicity avian influenza outbreaks globally are available on our H5 bird flu resource centre.
To report unusual signs of disease or death in wildlife anywhere in Australia, please contact your State or Territory WHA Coordinator.
Further information relevant to emergency infectious diseases of wildlife is available through our Fact Sheets, wildlife biosecurity and management resources, and specific incident information pages (see buttons below for quick links).
